Dragonfly Internet is bringing high-speed internet to Brewton and East Brewton sooner than ever. While the company remains committed to its original plan of building a state-of-the-art fiber-optic network in partnership with Alabama Power, the extensive engineering work required to prepare power poles for construction has taken longer than anticipated. In response to strong demand from residents and city leaders, Dragonfly Internet is launching its fixed wireless service now—delivering fast, reliable internet to the community, with free upgrades to fiber once construction in their area is complete. Dragonfly currently serves hundreds of customers in Monroeville, Evergreen and Atmore, AL using their advanced fixed wireless network.
“We’ve heard loud and clear from residents that they need better internet today—not months or years from now,” said David Hartin, CEO of Dragonfly Internet. “While our fiber network is still on track to start adding customers in 2025, we’re moving forward with a quicker solution now. By launching fixed wireless service first, we can provide immediate relief to homes and businesses, and then every customer will receive a free upgrade to fiber as soon as it’s available at their address.”
Customers will enjoy reliable download speeds up to 500 Mbs with strong Wi-Fi for streaming, remote work, online learning, and more. The service will use the same fast WiFi equipment that will be used with fiber and will include many of the same features such as parental controls and bandwidth prioritization that will also be features of the fiber packages. Once fiber service is built, transitioning will be seamless, with no additional cost to subscribers. The company will transition customers from the wireless technology to fiber as construction if completed on their street.
Brewton Mayor Yank Lovelace praised the decision, highlighting the urgency of bringing reliable broadband to the area.
“This is exactly the kind of solution Brewton needs,” said Mayor Lovelace. “Alabama Power is working as fast as they can to clear the path for construction of the new fiber optic network. But we knew waiting for fiber would take time, so I urged Dragonfly Internet to consider an approach that would get people connected sooner. I’m thrilled they listened, and I know this will be a game-changer for families and businesses in our community.”
Dragonfly Internet’s fixed wireless service will be available starting in June, with pre-registration available now for residents in Brewton and East Brewton. Wireless service is already available in the Castleberry area and also along Hwy 31 south near the Georgia-Pacific Containerboard mill. The company encourages interested households to visit www.dragonfly.net to sign up for updates and check availability in their area.
“Our mission has always been to provide top-tier internet to rural communities, and this solution allows us to do that even faster,” added CEO David Hartin. “We’re excited to connect Brewton and the surrounding areas to the internet they deserve—starting now, with an even brighter future ahead.”
