Golfers from across South Alabama joined faculty, staff and students from Reid State Technical College for a special benefit golf tournament held Thursday, June 12, at the Evergreen Golf Club in Evergreen.
The event, hosted annually by the Reid State Technical College Foundation, raises funds to support the college’s athletics department. Current athletic programs at Reid State include baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, e-sports, golf and volleyball.
In addition to the tournament, a bake sale and lemonade stand sponsored by Reid State staff added to the day’s festivities and fundraising efforts, offering sweet treats and refreshments for golfers.
RSTC Athletic Director Brac Brady noted that the college currently has just over 100 student-athletes on the roster and expressed appreciation for the community’s support.
“Funds raised at events like the golf tournament are important for providing scholarships to students who may not otherwise have the resources to attend college,” he said. “Thank you so much to those who support our athletic department and participated in the tournament. I can’t thank you enough for your support.”
Forty golfers on 10 teams competed in the tournament, which began following lunch.
At the end of the day, the leaderboard told the story: the team of Russell Lynch, Michael Cook, Al Etheridge, and Kenny McClure claimed first place. The Mayor’s Team—Willie Fantroy, Melvin Davis, Reggie Boykin, and Pat Pendleton—finished second. A tie for third place was shared between Southern Pine’s team (Jake Salter, Jordan Brown, Nathan McCreary, and Joseph O’Bannon) and the Coca-Cola Bottling United team (Gerome Bracken, Bryan Bass, Wesley Cain, and Laura Drew).
Additional honors went to Turner Murphy for Longest Drive and Michael Cook for Closest to the Pin.
Sponsors for the event included:
FOX 107.7, Wolff Motor Company, The Power Pig 101.1 FM, Training Consultants Inc., Otts Moore Law Firm LLC, Evergreen Concrete, B&W Auto Parts – Carquest Brewton, Grand Canyon University, Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Walker Construction, McKee & Associates Architects Inc., Horton & Associates, Bank of Evergreen, Watters Real Estate Group, Adams Gas Service LLC, All-In Credit Union, Conway Diesel Service, Descendants of Glen & Carrie Watters, Evergreen-Conecuh Chamber of Commerce, SAWDC AlabamaWorks!, Alabama Power, State Farm Agent Jeremy Anderson, Weaver’s Apparel and Fine Jewely and Jalisco Mexican Restaurant.
RSTC President Coretta Boykin expressed deep gratitude for the continued support of the surrounding community.
“It means so much to us that individuals and companies from across Alabama continue to stand with Reid State,” she said. “Their investment in our programs is an investment in our students, our communities, and the future workforce of this state.
“Supporting athletics at Reid State is another way we fulfill our mission of transforming lives and changing generations. Athletics foster discipline, teamwork, and school pride—values that extend far beyond the game and into our students’ futures. When students feel connected and supported, they are more likely to succeed in the classroom, in their careers, and in life.
“Their generosity helps us do more, reach further and impact lives in ways that last for generations,” she added.
Organizers will begin planning the next event soon. Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor is encouraged to email foundation@rstc.org for more information.
