WSN baseball takes a 1-0 loss at Jay Monday in extra innings
In a Monday game at Jay, the W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team lost a heartbreaker 1-0 to the Royals in eight innings.
With the loss the Eagles dropped their overall record to 19-6 and will conclude their regular season on the road Monday at Northview at 6 p.m.
After neither team scored in the regulation seven innings, the game went into extra innings.
After failing to score in the top of the eighth, the Royals benefited from a leadoff walk and a fielders choice to have a runner at second with one out. A hit up the middle scored the runner from second to give Jay the win with the lone run of the game.
Brian Settle pitched the complete game for the Eagles allowing two walks, four hits and struck out seven in eight innings.
At the plate for the Eagles, Hunter Mullins was 2-for-4 with two singles and Damion Williams was 1-for-3 with a single.
Reid Johnson was 1-for-4 with a single and Settle was 1-for-3 with a double. Tyler Sawyer added a single in the loss for the Eagles to go 1-for-2.
After the game at Northview Monday to end the regular season, the Eagles will play in the class 4A playoffs at home against the UMS-Wright Bulldogs beginning Friday.
Game time is set for 5 and 7:30 p.m. with the third game of the best two-of-three series set to begin Saturday at 2 p.m. if needed.
