EC edges out Brewton in opener, 7-5

In the first game of the District 5 9- and 10-year-old Little League baseball tournament Saturday in Brewton for Brewton and Escambia County’s all stars, Escambia County edged out Brewton 7-5.
The win advanced Escambia County to the winners bracket against Opp who defeated Evergreen 15-0 in the opening game of the tournament.
Brewton dropped into the losers bracket against Evergreen.
In the game Saturday, the game was back-and-back and deadlocked at 4-4 after the top of the fifth inning when Escambia County scored three runs in the bottom of the inning off a Brewton error with two outs in the game to claim a three-run lead at 7-4.
With Brewton needing three runs to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning and stay alive, they were only able to manage one run and stranded a runner on second base to lose 7-5.
Brewton’s run came in with one in the first, two in the second, one in the fourth and one in the sixth innings while Escambia County plated two in the second and third innings, and three in the fifth inning.
For Escambia County, Conner Huskey got the start on the mound and the no decision as he went 1 1/3 innings.
Matt Hutchins went 3 2/3 innings and Weston Riddle earned the win going 2/3 of an inning.
Cole Brown earned the save on the mound as he struck out the only batter he faced going 1/3 of an inning.
The quartet of East Brewton pitchers allowed five runs, three earned, two hits, walked seven, hit one, and struck out 13 Brewton batters.
Brandon Moye was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Escambia County in the win and Huskey had one RBI.
For Brewton, Russell Smith was 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI and Andrew Etheridge was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.
Etheridge got the start on the mound and the no decision as he went 2 1/3 innings.
Smith took the loss on the mound as he also went 2 1/3 innings.
Davis Wade went the final 1/3 of an inning.
The trio allowed seven runs, two earned, on two hits, walked five, and striking out 12.
Escambia County made seven errors while Brewton made four.
