Escambia County’s Junior Miss competition is set for July 10 beginning at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Woodfin-Patterson Auditorium on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College located on Alco Drive.

Jessie McKinley is serving as chairman for the scholarship competition among young Escambia County women.

Six contestants are vying for the title of Escambia County’s Junior Miss with hopes to advance to the state competition later this year.

Contestants and Little Sisters of the group recently traveled to Mobile to witness the 53rd annual America’s Junior Miss event.

With the 2011 events, the competition will be renamed “Distinguished Young Women.” More in depth information concerning the name change will be revealed during the local event, McKinley said.

Participants in this year’s event include students from Brewton, East Brewton, Atmore and Flomaton.

Contestants are Megan Andrews, Dallas Brown, Walton Nichols, Kelsey Templeton, Cierra White and Shelly Womack.
