EC rallies against Brewton, falls 10-7

Through 5 1/3 innings Sunday in Opp, it looked like Brewton would easily defeat and eliminate Escambia County by a score of 10-0.

While Brewton did end up with the win and eliminate Escambia County, the score ended up being 10-7 as Escambia County scored seven runs in the final inning only to lose and go 0-2 in the tournament.

Brewton built a 10-0 lead over EC using six runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning to lead big heading into the final inning of play.

Starting pitcher Kellyn Winn came out of the game with one out in the sixth inning only to see a trio of relievers behind him go 2/3 of an inning and allow seven runs on two hits, strikeout one and walk four and the team make three errors in the inning to get Escambia County to within three runs with runners on first and second.

Brooks Brown went the final 1/3 of an inning to end the game with a strikeout and give Brewton the win and live to play one more day on Monday against Evergreen while Escambia County was eliminated.

Winn got the win on the mound for Brewton allowing two hits, no walks, striking out eight, and hitting one.

Ethan Tyree relieved Winn and allowed four runs, two hits, and walked one while Tim McDonald relieved Tyree and went 1/3 of an inning and allowed three runs on no hits and walked three.

At the plate for Brewton, Winn was 1-for-1 with a two-run homerun and Trippe Floyd was 1-for-4.

Jake Najor was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Tyree was 1-for-3. Jonathon Lucas was 1-for-1.

For Escambia County, Colton Morris took the loss on the mound as he went 3 2/3 innings allowing six runs, two hits, walked one, struck out seven, and hit three.

Hayden Hammond went the final 2 1/3 innings allowing four runs, three hits, struck out three and walked three.

At the plate for Escambia, Malcolm Hawthorne was 1-for-3 and Morris was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Hammond was 1-for-2 in the loss to Brewton.
