Brewton area residents have the chance to dispose of prescription drugs safely under a nationwide program in which the city is participating.
The Brewton Police Department’s Narcotics Division is joining with the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Nationwide Prescription Takeback Day on Sept. 25. Brewton police will have a collection site at the Brewton Civic Center, located at 1010 B Douglas Ave. in Brewton.
“Anyone can bring any over-the-counter medication or prescription medication to the drop-off location and drop off the items with no questions asked,” said Sgt. Bryan Davis, head of the police department’s narcotics unit.
Prescription drug abuse remains a growing problem, Davis said, and getting rid of those medications can help keep them out of the hands of children and others who could potentially abuse them.
“Not everybody smokes marijuana, but everybody has prescription drugs,” Davis said.
