BMS football stays undefeated with win over MC

In a rescheduled game from earlier in the season Thursday, the Brewton Middle School football team improved to 4-0 with a 40-0 win over Monroe County.

In the game Thursday, on the very first offensive play from scrimmage Mchenry Coleman ran 45 yards for a Brewton touchdown and the extra point was added by Kyle Davis making the score 8-0 with 5:52 left in the first quarter.

After a Monroe punt, Coleman received the punt on the Tiger’s 45-yard line and ran it back for the touchdown. The extra point was added by Davis and with 4:13 left in the first quarter with Brewton leading by a score of 16-0.

Brewton would take a 24-0 lead on their next series when quarterback Jones Manning made a heads up call at the line of scrimmage and threw a screen pass to an uncovered Trae Walker for a 30-yard touchdown reception.

The extra point was added by Grant Youngblood to make the score 24-0 with 1:42 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter many of the Tiger’s younger players were able to see playing time with Jared Cooper catching a 19-yard pass from quarterback Chardian Johnson.

After a stalled drive for Brewton, the Tigers were able to go into the half leading 26-0 after getting a safety on defense.

The third quarter started out with Brewton receiving the kick off and with runs of 20 and 19 yards by Coleman, and a 13-yard run to the 12-yard line by Davis set up a touchdown by Cooper with the extra point being no good.

This gave Brewton a 34-0 lead with 2:12 left in the quarter.

The final score came with 1:34 left in the third quarter, when Jared Cooper took the handoff and ran right up the middle for 39 yards and the touchdown.

The extra point was no good making the score 4-0 in favor of the home team Brewton Middle School Tigers to get the win.

Mchenry Coleman had 102 yards on five carries and a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown for the Tigers and Kyle Davis had 16 yards on two carries.

Ronald Young had 18 yards receiving and Grant Youngblood had 49 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Trae Walker had one catch for 30 yards and Jared Cooper had 79 yards on five carries in the win for BMS.

Brewton’s Middle School will travel to Monroe County Thursday to play them again at 6 p.m.
