Brewton police are seeking the public’s help to find two suspects involved in separate thefts at a local business in the past week.
Both women were caught on surveillance video at the Walmart Supercenter.
In one case, a woman wearing a dark tank top used a stolen credit card to buy merchandise and a gift card.
“She put $300 on the card, and then walked to the next register and bought a gift card,“ said Sgt. Steven Ferguson. “So we’re looking at $600.”
The credit card had been stolen from someone locally, Ferguson said.
The suspect in that case could face charges of illegal use and possession of a credit card and second-degree theft.
In another case, a suspect “made a bad call,” Ferguson said, when she took a wallet that didn’t belong to her.
That women, wearing a greenish top in the video pictures, was behind another woman in line when the woman left her wallet behind. Someone behind the suspect asked if that was her wallet, and that’s when the suspect took it.
“She took advantage (of the situation),” Ferguson said.
The wallet contained credit cards, checks and some cash, he said.
The second suspect faces a charge of theft of lost property in the second degree.
Police do not know whether the woman has attempted to use the credit cards found in the wallet.
Ferguson said police do not know whether either woman is local.
Anyone who can identify either woman can call the police department at 867-3212.
