At the urging of a T.R. Miller High School student, the road in front of the school will be named for late principal Donnie Rotch.

Rotch was killed in the first week of school in August in a head-on collision on U.S. 31.

At Tuesday’s regular council meeting, Brewton City Council member Dennis Dunaway read a letter from T.R. Miller senior class treasurer Leigh Margaret Bostic, who asked council members to name the street for the man who was “the epitome of our school motto, ‘legacy of greatness.’”

“This will be an excellent reminder of all of the great things he has done for our school,” Bostic wrote.

Bostic also noted that her family’s house is the only one on the current Hutto Street.

“I think it is ideal because it is in front of the school” that Rotch loved so much, Bostic wrote.

“Everyone at T.R. Miller loved Mr. Rotch, and he loved everyone. He genuinely card about everyone who walked through the doors of the school.”

Dunaway made a motion to rename the road Rotch Boulevard, and council members unanimously agreed.

Mayor Ted Jennings said the city will hold a ceremony to rename the street at a later time.
