Mrs. Bertha Lee McConico, 92, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010. She was an active member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in many areas, and she was a member of Lily Chapter 592 O.E.S. She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Samson McConico; a daughter, Leola Mae James; sons, Walter Lee James and Bernard James; a brother, George Porter Jr.; a sister, Bernice Porter and a special friend, Jewel Lewis.

She is survived by her sons, the Rev. William (Shirley) James Jr. and Len Edward (Joyce) James, both of Newark, N.J., Joe Lewis (Elnora) James of Houston, Texas, and Gregory (Eunice) James of Orcutt, Calif.; her daughters, Ella M. Pannell of Rahway, N.J., and Betty J. Bellamy of Brewton; a step-son, George McConico of Houston; 27 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; three special friends, Mary Askew, Lucille Simmons and Lillie Brazil; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sidney C. Tucker officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
