JDCC basketball drops two tourney games
Jefferson Davis’ Community College Warhawk basketball team lost two games over the weekend to drop their overall record to 0-2.
JDCC lost to Pensacola State College 79-53 before losing to Daytona State College 66-51.
JDCC will be back in action Tuesday for their first home game against Pensacola Christian College.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Warhawk gym in Brewton.
Pensacola State College 79, JDCC 53
In the first game of their tournament Friday, JDCC lost to Pensacola by 26 points, 79-53.
JDCC was outscored 39-31 in the first half and 40-22 in the second half.
JDCC shot 34 percent from the field and was 1-for-16 from the 3-point area for 6 percent. JDCC was 22-for-30 from the free throw line for 73 percent.
Braylon Lazare led with 13 points for JDCC and Kahlee Tyler added 12 points.
Sherman Presswood chipped in 10 points followed by Turmonte Ragland with seven, Daryl Duncan with five, Brandon Scott with three and Larel Jackson with two points. Joshua Fealing had one point in the loss for the Warhawks.
Jackson, Tyler, and Adam Stumpf all had one offensive rebound each with Presswood leading with four defensive to lead with four total rebounds.
Tyler led with three assists and Lazare led with four blocks while Ragland led with three steals.
Daytona 66, JDCC 51
JDCC ended the tournament with an 0-2 record and fell to 0-3 overall with a 66-51 loss to Daytona State.
JDCC was outscored 31-24 in the first half and 35-27 in the second to lose by 15.
JDCC shot 31 percent from the field (18-for-57), 11 percent from the 3-point area (2-for-18) and 65 percent from the free throw line (13-for-20).
Tyler led with 12 points followed by Lazare with nine along with Scott, Duncan with seven, Ragland, Fealing and Presswood with four each, and Stumpf with two.
Four Warhawks had two offensive rebounds each while Tyler led with seven defensive and eight total.
Ragland with four assists while four Warhawks had one block each and six had one steal each.
