For the second game in a row, all W.S. Neal Eagle basketball teams dropped their games Friday night at home against Pleasant Home.
The W.S. Neal B-team dropped to 0-2 with a 31-21 loss to the Eagles of Pleasant Home while the Lady Eagles of East Brewton lost 30-24 to drop to 1-2.
W.S. Neal’s varsity Eagles remained winless dropping to 0-3 with a 52-34 loss.

Pleasant Home 31, W.S. Neal B-team 21
A 10-0 run in the first quarter and a 9-0 run in the third quarter for Pleasant Home aiding them in a 31-21, 10-point win over W.S. Neal Friday.
The visiting Eagles went on a 10-0 run in the first quarter to turn a 4-3 W.S. Neal lead into a 13-4 Pleasant Home lead after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, W.S. Neal outscored Pleasant Home 6-3 to cut the lead to 16-10 heading into halftime.
In the second half, W.S. Neal cut the lead to 16-12 only to see Pleasant Home go on a 9-0 run to hold a 25-12 lead with 47 seconds left in the third quarter. W.S. Neal added the final three points of the quarter to cut the lead to 25-15 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, both teams would score six points as the Eagles lost by 10 points, 31-21.
Trevor Burns led with 12 points in the loss and Terrell Smith had four points. Tyquis Collins and Nick Straiton had two points in the loss and Zack Haveard had one point.
W.S. Neal shot 1-for-8 from the free throw line in the loss while Pleasant Home was 6-for-14.

Pleasant Home 30, W.S. Neal Lady Eagles 24
In a game that saw both teams combine for 14-for-58 from the free throw line Friday night, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles lost to Pleasant Home 30-24.
After a 4-4 first quarter and a 10-9 W.S. Neal lead at the half, Pleasant Home went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter to hold a 23-15 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Pleasant Home would hold a 26-15 lead with 7:09 left in the game only to see W.S. Neal cut the lead to 26-24 with 1:38 left in the game after a 9-0 run of their own.
The Lady Eagles had their chance to tie the game but missed a shot with 1:05 left and Pleasant Home got the rebound but missed two free throws with 48 seconds left.
From there, W.S. Neal would steal the inbound pass and miss four shots under the goal and see Pleasant home get the rebound and outscore W.S. Neal 4-0 the remainder of the game to get the win by six points.
“Well, we started out intimidated, we started out scared,” W.S. Neal Lady Eagle head coach John Saxon said. “It took us out of our game. We never did get into our offense. We never felt comfortable tonight in our offense due to intimidation. I tried to call timeouts and talk to them at the half. I tried to overwork the officials and then we realized they were trying to give us the ball game and whoever wanted it the most would win the ballgame.”
Saxon said he then realized if he could pull within 10 points, he would start shooting 3s and if he could get a break with one 3, he would call a timeout and set his offense.
“I would then start pressing and we got the break we needed and then caused the turnovers and got within two and then I called off the 3s,” Saxon said. “We then 1:26 left in the game and all we needed to do was create the fouls and put us at the foul line.
“That was the strategy and the game plan going in. We didn’t get some calls like I thought we should have got down underneath but that is basketball and how it goes.”
Saxon said when his team had the chances, they did not make the shots.
“We missed four real easy shots under the basket,” Saxon said. “The girls are still young and this is a new offense. They are so drilled in playing backyard basketball that they are not disciplined enough to be patient enough to run schemes. I feel like with four or five more games under our belt, we should be ready for the county tournament in December. They didn’t quit. They kept battling and playing hard. I just got to find the right combination. Megan Andrews got in early foul trouble in the first half with four fouls and I had to set her down. So, I tried to find the other combination to work and…we just win some and lose some. We got beat, but we beat ourselves.”
W.S. Neal was 4-for-24 from the free throw line in the loss while Pleasant Home was 10-for-34.
Pleasant Home outscored W.S. Neal 14-5 in the third quarter only to see W.S. Neal hold a 9-7 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Keyvonnia Kyles led with 15 points in the loss followed by Jasmine Crook with three points and Angelique Askew, Tiana Smith, and Shapashaun Lane with two points each.

Pleasant Home 52, W.S. Neal boys 34
Turnovers and youth continued to be the trouble for the W.S. Neal Eagle basketball team Friday night at home against Pleasant Home as the Eagles dropped to 0-3 with a 52-34 loss.
“Turnovers are hurting us bad right now,” W.S. Neal Eagle coach Derek Roberts said. “I am trying to get the guys to protect the ball. We just have some young guys and some inexperienced players. Hopefully things will turn around some for us.”
In the game Friday night, W.S. Neal fell to a 7-0 run in the first quarter to trail 16-8 at quarters end and another 7-0 run over the span of the first and second quarters to trail 24-17 heading into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal would storm back and cut the Pleasant Home lead to 29-26 with 5:12 left in the third but from there, Pleasant Home went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter with a 38-28 lead.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal was outscored 14-6 to lose by 18 points.
W.S. Neal shot 6-for-10 from the three throw line while Pleasant Home was 14-for-29.
The Eagles had eight scorers in the loss with Montrel Banks leading with seven points.
Jalen Harrod had six points along with Austin Dixon and Dalton Evans and Donovan Millican added three points.
Kenny Kiser, Josiah Nettles and Rashod Taylor added two points.
