An Escambia County man is in custody today after Escambia County sheriff’s officials said he confessed to killing his mother Thursday night.

Deputies arrived to find the body of Angela Susan Fleming, 46, at a residence on McGowin Hill Road in the Damascus community.

Deputies arrested Jonathan Brian Fleming, 26, and charged him with one open count of murder. Fleming is currently being held in the Escambia County Detention Center.

Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said the suspect was likely planning to try to dispose of his mother’s body when officers arrived on the scene, tipped by a friend of the suspect.
