An Escambia County man pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter in the 2009 shooting death of 32-year-old Kenny Porter.

Clarence Luker was sentenced to 20 years in prison under a plea agreement with prosecutors. He had originally been charged with murder.

District Attorney Steve Billy said the incident began with an argument between the two men and Lorraine Gray, who was also charged with murder in the case. Billy said Gray and Luker drove to Porter’s home and Gray was threatening Porter with a rake. Luker then fired one shot at Porter, who later died at a Mobile hospital.

Vanessa Porter, the victim’s mother, told Luker in court that he had “torn my family apart.”

“Do you realize what you have done to me?” she said. “You took something very precious from me.”

Luker looked down at the floor and did not say anything during Mrs. Porter’s comments in court.

Gray is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
