Eagles lose area game to Monroe County Friday night on road

All three W.S. Neal basketball teams took losses Friday night on the road at Monroe County.
The B-team Eagles lost 55-30 to remain winless this season and drop to 0-6. The Lady Eagles lost their sixth game in a row as they dropped to 1-6 with a 42-34 loss. The varsity Eagles saw their two game win streak snapped as they lost 56-27 to the Tigers to drop their record to 3-7 overall.
The games for the Lady Eagles and varsity Eagles were area games as both teams dropped to 0-1 in area play.
The B-team Eagles will be off until Tuesday, Jan. 4 as they take on Jackson at home. The Lady Eagles and varsity Eagles will begin play in the Escambia County Tournament Friday in Brewton at T.R. Miller. W.S. Neal will start the tournament off at 3:30 p.m. with the girls play Atmore’s girls and the boys playing at 5 p.m. against Atmore’s boys.
Monroe County 55, WSN B-team 30
W.S. Neal was outscored 13-0 in the first quarter Friday night as they lost by 25 points to Monroe County.
Trailing by 13 after the first quarter, both team scored 10 points in the second quarter as the Eagles trailed 21-12 at the half.
In the third quarter, Monroe County increased their lead by nine as they outscored W.S. Neal 21-12 to take a 44-22 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Monroe County outscored the Eagles 11-8 to get the win.
Trevor Burns led W.S. Neal with 12 points and Nick Straiton added six points. Zack Haveard and Devin Stallworth had four points each and Terrell Smith had three points along with one from Bryson Peterson.
Monroe County 42, WSN Lady Eagles 34
The Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal saw their losing streak hit six straight Friday night as they lost to Monroe County by eight.
W.S. Neal trailed 13-6 after the first quarter and 22-13 at the half following a 9-7 advantage for Monroe in the second quarter. In the third, Monroe County edged out W.S. Neal 8-7 to take a 30-20 lead into the fourth. In the fourth, W.S. Neal cut into the lead by two points with a 14-12 advantage but lost 42-34.
Keyvonnia Kyles led W.S. Neal with 16 points and Jasmine Crook had six points. Megan Andrews and Courtney Emmons had four each and Fiona Gillam and Tiana Smith had two points each.
Monroe County 56, WSN Eagles 27
After winning two straight, W.S. Neal’s win streak came to an end Friday as they lost to Monroe County 56-27.
Monroe County outscored W.S. Neal 18-7 in the first quarter and 14-3 in the second to lead 32-10 at the half.
W.S. Neal was then outscored 15-7 in the third quarter to trail 47-17 heading into the fourth before outscoring Monroe County 10-9 in the final quarter to lose by 29.
Josiah Nettles led W.S. Neal with 11 points and Austin Dixon had five. Dalton Evans chipped in four points and Marc Jones had three. Kenny Kiser had two points and Montrel Banks and Jalen Harrod added one each.
