Eagles fall hard against Atmore to start EC tourney Friday

Both the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle and varsity Eagle basketball teams saw their losing streaks grow in the first games of the Escambia County Tournament Friday afternoon at T.R. Miller.
The Lady Eagles lost to Atmore by 33 points, 56-23, while the varsity Eagles lost by 56 points, 81-25. The losing streak for the Lady Eagles grew to nine games as they dropped to 1-9 overall while the varsity Eagles’ streak increased to four as they dropped to 3-9.
W.S. Neal teams lost to T.R. Miller Saturday in the tournament as well to drop their records. Stats were not available as of press time.
W.S. Neal was set to end the tournament Monday back in Brewton against Flomaton.
Atmore 56, WSN Lady Eagles 23
With 3:32 left in the first half, the Lady Eagles of East Brewton and Escambia County Blue Devils of Atmore were tied 12-12.
From there, Atmore would go on a 27-0 run over the final minutes of the second quarter and first 3:29 of the third quarter to take a 39-12 lead and defeat W.S. Neal 56-23.
Atmore would end the second quarter on a 15-0 run and start the third quarter on a 12-0 run while also seeing an 11-0 run over a span of time in the third and fourth quarters.
W.S. Neal led 7-4 after the first quarter but was outscored 23-5 in the second quarter to trail 27-12 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Eagles were outscored 17-2 to trail 44-14 heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, Atmore edged out the Lady Eagles 12-9 to get the win.
Keyvonnia Kyles led W.S. Neal with 17 points and Angelique Askew added four.
Megan Andrews chipped in two points in the loss.
W.S. Neal shot 6-for-10 from the free throw line while Atmore was 1-for-10.
Atmore 81, WSN Eagles 25
While they did not fall to as big of run against Atmore as their Lady Eagle teammates did, the W.S Neal Eagles defeat against the Blue Devils was just a little more worse as they lost by 56 points to Atmore 81-25.
The Blue Devils started the game on a 12-0 run and outscored W.S. Neal 24-3 in the first quarter. From there, Atmore outscored W.S. Neal 30-13 in the second quarter to lead 54-16 at the half.
W.S Neal would go on and be outscored 16-6 in the third quarter to trail 70-22 and then get outscored 11-3 in the fourth quarter to take a loss in the first round of the Escambia County tournament in Brewton Friday.
W.S. Neal shot 5-for-11 from the free throw line in the loss while Atmore was 6-for-10.
Hudson Brown led W.S. Neal with eight points and Montrel Banks had seven. Josiah Nettles added three points and Marc Jones, Kenny Kiser, and Austin Dixon had two points each. Donovan Millican added one point in the loss.
