Lady Tigers stunned by Flomaton in tourney, varsity Tigers fall also

Both the T.R. Miller basketball teams dropped their opening games of the Escambia County Tournament Friday at home to Flomaton.
The Lady Tigers lost 33-30 to drop their record to 5-3 overall while the varsity Tigers lost 53-41 to drop their record to 2-3 overall.
The Tiger teams defeated W.S. Neal Saturday in tournament play. Stats were unavailable as of press time.
T.R. Miller was set to end the tournament Monday against Atmore.

Flomaton 33, TRM Lady Tigers 30
For the first time since 2006, the Lady Tigers of T.R. Miller lost an Escambia County Tournament game as they lost to Flomaton 33-30 Friday night.
T.R. Miller has swept tournament teams from 2001-2005 and from 2007-2009.
The only loss for T.R. Miller was in 2006 when they lost to Escambia County in the tournament championship game 49-39. Before the Escambia County loss, the Lady Tigers were 17-0 in tournament games.
T.R. Miller had won three straight county tournament championships and seven of the last eight prior to the Flomaton loss. The loss to Flomaton Friday made T.R. Miller’s record to 26-2 in tournament games since 2001.
In the game Friday, the Lady Tigers started the game on a 6-0 run only to see Flomaton cut the lead to 6-5 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lady Tigers used a 12-0 run to grab an 18-7 lead with 3:47 left in the half, but Flomaton ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to trail 20-15.
In the third quarter, Flomaton cut into the lead by four points with a 9-5 scoring advantage to trail 25-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller would hold a 30-28 lead with 5:38 left in the game, but Flomaton, who outscored T.R. Miller 9-5 in the quarter, ended the game on a 5-0 run to win by three points and stun the Lady Tigers of Brewton.
Sha Kiser led Brewton with 11 points and Leah Brundidge added seven. Courtney Jones had six points and Adrian Gibbs and Brittany Rush had three points each.
T.R. Miller was 5-for-9 from the free throw line while Flomaton was 4-for-5.

Flomaton 53, TRM varsity 41
After winning two straight games to even their record, the Tigers of T.R. Miller saw their win streak snapped Friday at home against Flomaton as they lost 53-41.
Flomaton stormed out of the gate to start the game on a 6-0 run and lead T.R. Miller 16-6 after the first quarter.
T.R. Miller would cut the lead to 16-10 with 4:22 left in the second quarter only to see the Hurricanes go on an 11-0 run and claim a 27-10 lead with 1:24 left before the half and lead 27-12 at the half.
The Tigers cut into the Hurricane lead by four points in the third quarter as they held a 14-10 advantage in the quarter but trailed 37-26 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Flomaton edged out the Tigers 16-15 to get the 12-point win.
T.R. Miller shot 6-for-12 from the free throw line while Flomaton shot 11-for-16.
T.R. Miller was led by Mark Bryant’s 12 points and Darrion Salter followed with 10.
Jaquan Dewberry added six points and Caleb Dickey had five points. Antonio Payne and Devonte Jones each had four points in the loss for the Tigers.
Joshmene Barton sang the National Anthem before the game started.
