Some people are worthy of recognition even if they don’t think they are.
Area residents who know of just such a person may want to submit a letter of nomination for the annual Citizen of the Year award presented by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Executive Director Judy Crane said nominations for the honor are now being accepted.
“We will be taking nominations for the Citizen of the Year award through Feb. 11,” Crane said. “The award will be presented during the annual Chamber dinner on Feb. 24.”
Crane said there are a few to consider when compiling a letter of nomination for the honor.
“The person or persons nominated must live in the Brewton or East Brewton area for at least three years,” Crane said. “The recipient’s achievements must have contributed to the enrichment of the Brewton or East Brewton area in either business/professional achievement or community/civic affairs.”
Criteria to consider when nominating a businessperson or professional include assuring the recipient has established a successful business or has been the person with the primary responsibility for the business.
Community/civic affairs nominees should have been active for a period of several years in community or civic work. The nominee may have worked in one or more of several areas such as health and welfare, education, religion, cultural and other social causes.
Crane said honor those who serve their community is one goal of the Chamber’s efforts.
“The Chamber is a business based organization,” Crane said. “We certainly want to honor citizens who have created jobs in our area.”
Those submitting letters of nomination may make submission in person or by mail. All nominations should be addressed to Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, Citizen of the Year 2010, 101B Douglas Ave., Brewton, AL 36426.
