JDCC baseball starts season 0-2-1

Three games into their 2011 season, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team finds themselves with two losses and a tie.
The Warhawks began their season Friday on the road at Lawson and came back with an 8-7 loss to start the season 0-1.
In a home doubleheader Saturday in Brewton, JDCC lost game one to Marion Military 18-4 to drop to 0-2. In the second game of the doubleheader the Warhawks and MMI played to a 4-4 tie before the game was called due to darkness.
JDCC was set to play at Northwest Florida State College Tuesday on the road, but will return to action Friday at home against Bevill State.
The Warhawks will also be back in action Saturday against Lawson, as they will play a doubleheader beginning at noon and 2 p.m.

Lawson State 8, JDCC 7
Holding a 7-3 lead after the top of the fourth inning, the Warhawks of JDCC gave up five unanswered over the next three innings to lose their season opener by one run Friday at Lawson.
JDCC led 3-0 after the top of the second and 4-0 after one run in the fourth, but Lawson cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning.
JDCC would respond in the top of the fourth with three runs to claim a 7-3 lead, but Lawson added three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to get the win by one.
Bill Hamrick was 2-for-3 for JDCC at the plate and Bennie Britton was 2-for-4. Maurice Leverett was 1-for-4 with a triple and Brandon Blackwelder was 2-for-5. Jordan Creel was 1-for-4.
Blackwelder, Creel, Britton, Matthew Watkins and Robbie Jernigan all had one RBI each. Tyler Moore took the loss on the mound for JDCC as he went four innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits, walked and struck out one.

Game one: MMI 18, JDCC 4
JDCC gave up six runs in the second inning and seven in the fifth along with five in the sixth Saturday to take an 18-4 loss to Marion Military.
JDCC’s four runs all came in the second inning.
Stuart Todd and Tyler Walker were both 1-for-3 (double) and Hamrick was 1-for-2. Britton went 1-for-1 in the loss. Todd and Britton had one RBI each.
Corey Thompson took the loss for the Warhawks on the mound as he went three innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits while walking four and striking out none.

Game two: JDCC 4, MMI 4
In the second game of the doubleheader Saturday at home, the Warhawks tied MMI 4-4.
JDCC and MMI were tied 1-1 after four innings of play until the Warhawks pushed two runs across the plate to take a 3-1 lead. JDCC added one run in the sixth, but MMI scored three in the top of the seventh to get the tie.
Creel led JDCC at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
Nathan Edwards was 1-for-4 along with Jernigan and Dustin Bickmeyer was 1-for-2. Jernigan’s hit was a double.
Joey Hedden and Jeremy Barnes pitched in the tie. Hedden went 1 1/3 innings and allowed no runs, two hits and struck out one.
Barnes went 6 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, and struck out six.
