Southern Pine power back up

The last Southern Pine Electric Cooperative customers without power overnight Friday came back on at around 4:30 Saturday morning, SPEC spokeswoman Melanie Harrison said.
“It took a great deal longer than we anticipated because the load was so great,” Harrison said, noting that the cold weather Friday night meant heaters were running for residential customers.
Southern Pine had to bring a portable substation to Brewton Friday night after an animal got caught in the Brewton substation, shorted out the connections and caused the transformers to blow.
Harrison said customers should find things back to normal this weekend.
“We have asked our industrial customers not to run this weekend, just until we can let everything get back to normal,” she said. “We don’t anticipate any problems when everyone gets back to work on Monday.”
