TRM Lady Tigers win area tournament championship Saturday

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers won the class 3A area 1 tournament championship Saturday afternoon at home with a 41-16 defeat of Clarke County.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 20-5 overall and will now advance to the sub-regional round of the state AHSAA playoffs.
As champions, T.R. Miller will host the sub-regional game Thursday at 7 p.m. and will take on the loser of the area 4 championship game between Trinity and Montgomery Academy. (MA defeated Trinity 60-34).
Clarke County, as runner-up, will travel and play the winner.
If the Lady Tigers win Thursday in the sub-regional round of the playoffs, they will advance to the South Regional in Mobile at the University of South Alabama.
The Lady Tigers would play Monday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. in Mobile against the winner of the area 3 runner-up game (Slocomb/Abbeville) at the area 2 winner (Opp/Geneva).

In T.R. Miller boys action Friday night in the area tournament semifinals against Bayside Academy, the Tigers lost 56-41. Also see Wednesday’s paper for a game recap and overall season thoughts from head coach Ron Jackson. The Tigers ended their season with a 6-16 record.
