JDCC baseball beats NWF Tuesday

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team saw their record go one above the .500 mark Tuesday at home as they defeated Northwest Florida State College 7-5. JDCC’s record now stands at 9-8-1 overall.
JDCC led 7-0 after the fifth inning but saw the Raiders plate four in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 7-4 and add one more in the eight inning to cut the Warhawk lead to two at 7-5.
Neither team would score the remainder of the game as JDCC hung on for the win by two.
Lee Hunter led JDCC at the plate with a 1-for-4 day. Hunter had a three-run home run in the fourth to turn a 3-0 JDCC lead into a 6-0 lead.
Bill Hamrick was 1-for-4 with one RBI and a double and Nathan Edwards was 1-for-3. Robbie Jernigan was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Xavier Cunningham had one RBI in the Warhawk win.
Ryne Drummonds earned the win on the mound going 5 1/3 innings allowing three runs, six hits, walked two and struck out four.
Corey Thompson relieved Drummonds and went three innings allowing two runs on four hits, walked six and struck out one.
Jarris Whitaker earned the save going 2/3 of an inning and striking out one.
JDCC will take on Jefferson State Thursday at home at 1 p.m.
