WSNMS baseball sweeps Clarke County Tuesday

The W.S. Neal Middle School baseball team swept a doubleheader at home Tuesday against Clarke County to improve their record to 3-1.
W.S. Neal Middle won the first game 11-8 and took game two 10-9 in a late inning rally.

Game one: WSNMS 11, Clarke County 8
A big second inning for the Eagles of W.S. Neal Middle School helped pave the way for an 11-8 win over Clarke County Tuesday in game one.
The Eagles led 3-2 after one inning of play and after a Bulldog run in the top of the second tied the game at 3-3, W.S. Neal scored six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 9-3 lead.
Both teams would add two runs in the third inning to make the score 11-5 in favor of the Eagles. Neither team scored in the sixth inning and after three runs for Clarke County in the top of fifth cut the lead to 11-8, W.S. Neal hung on for the three-run win.
Miles Powell got the win on the mound for W.S. Neal and Rob Jones pitched in relief.
Powell went three innings allowing three hits, five runs, two walks, four strikeouts and hit four.
Jones went the final two innings allowing three runs, two hits, walked four and struck out three.
At the plate, Powell was 2-for-2 with one RBI and Jones was 1-for-3. Nick Laster was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Game two: WSNMS 10, Clarke County 9
In game two, the middle school Eagles found themselves in the same situation as their varsity Eagles did Saturday against Northview in the Eagle Classic.
Trailing 9-7 in the final inning, W.S. Neal rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to get a 10-9 win over Clarke County and complete the sweep.
Clarke County led 5-1 after the first inning and 6-1 after the top of the second. W.S. Neal came back in the bottom of the second with six runs to take a 7-6 lead after two innings.
Neither team scored in the third inning with Clarke County adding three in the top of the fourth to hold a 9-7 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
In the final inning and one out, W.S. Neal got a walk to Rob Jones and a single by Nick Laster. A Bulldog error and a single by Colton Morris tied the game at 9-9.
With the bases loaded, Dalton Shell put down a bunt as Justin Sessions stole from third and the Bulldog pitcher misplayed the ball to give W.S. Neal the 10-9 rally win.
Alex O’Keane earned the win in relief of starter Lane Chavers. Chavers went 3 1/3 innings allowing five hits, nine runs, three walks and strikeouts and hit two.
O’Keane went the final 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs or hits, walked one and struck out two.
At the plate, Powell was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Rob Jones and Laster were 1-for-3.
Morris was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Shell had one RBI.
