A long line of prospective customers stood waiting Thursday morning for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies of the newest Goody’s location in Brewton.

The store, which opened in the former Peebles location in Douglas Square Shopping Center, held grand opening ceremonies complete with local diginitaries and members of the business community on hand for the event.

Brewton’s Goody’s store manager, Patty Stoop, said the company had been working toward the change for a period of time completing the transition recently.

“We are working to convert all the Peebles South stores to Goody’s,” Stoop said. “It’s more like a rebranding of things in the store and focusing on some new things.”

Stoop said some aspects of merchandise available at the new store will change, while items some customers of Peebles had grown to expect will remain available.

“Goody’s has a larger line of junior sizes and items for young men,” Stoop said. “We are very excited about opening this store and are looking forward to working here.”

While most of the employees of Peebles remained at the new Goody’s, new employees have also been put in place to assist customers with shopping needs.

The opening of Goody’s in Brewton marked one of 18 other grand openings held for the retail outlet. Goody’s corporat offices are located in Houston, Texas with over 780 stores in 39 states across the country.
