Alabama Sen. Marc Keahey, D-Grove Hill, has been appointed Senate minority whip of the state Senate by Senate Minority Leader Roger Bedford.
Keahey’s responsibilities as minority whip will be to: assist the Minority Leader on the Senate floor, count votes, ensure attendance of minority party members and maintain caucus discipline on partisan issues and procedural questions.
“I am honored and privileged to be the minority whip for the Alabama Senate,” said Keahey, who represents Senate District 22. “As minority whip, I will work with my fellow colleagues to ensure the issues affecting our great state will be resolved with appropriate action.”
Elected to his first full four-year term in the general election in November 2010, Keahey was first elected to the District 22 seat in June 2009. Before his current run in the state Senate, Keahey served in the Alabama House of Representatives.
