TRM softball takes second at Greenville tourney

Saturday at the Greenville Tournament, the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball team went 4-1 and finished as runner-up losing to Goshen in the championship game.
The Lady Tigers defeated Jeff Davis of Montgomery 15-0 in the first game and Brewbaker Tech 14-1 in game two.
In game three, the Lady Tigers got another shutout as they defeated Luverne 9-0.
In the fourth game of the tournament, the Lady Tigers continued their success as they took down Clarke County 6-1 to play in the championship game.
In the final game, the Lady Tigers lost 4-2. Overall, T.R. Miller improved their record to 16-6.
“It was a good day overall,” Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “We came in second but we did some good things throughout the day. Our pitchers pitched very well giving up less than 10 hits in all five games combined. We gave up a total of six runs on the day also. We hit very well for the day and played solid defense. Hopefully all of this will give us some confidence heading towards area tournament.”
In the 15-0 win over JD, Miranda Smith earned the win on the mound striking out 10 and allowing one hit. Natalie Neal was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Against Brewbaker Tech, Taylor Guthrie earned the win on the mound striking out six and allowing two hits. Leah Brundidge was 2-for-3 and Neal was 3-for-3 with a homerun.
Against Luverne, Smith earned the win on the mound allowing three hits and struck out four. Neal was 2-for-3 with a homerun and four RBIs.
Against Clarke County, Smith took another win allowing four hits and struck out three. Emily Waters was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
In the loss to Goshen in the championship game, Smith took the loss on the mound allowing five hits.
T.R. Miller made three errors in the loss.
Lauren Ward was 1-for-3 with a two-run double.
The Lady Tigers began play Monday in the Gulf Shores tournament and will continue play their today.
Monday, the Lady Tigers lost their first game to Athens 12-0 and lost their night game to Oneonta 6-5.
T.R. Miller will be back in action at W.S. Neal Tuesday and at J.U. Blacksher, Thursday, April 21.
The Lady Tigers will play Hillcrest at home in their regular season finale, Tuesday, April 26 at 4 p.m.
The area tournament for the Lady Tigers will begin Tuesday, May 3.
