The T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team saw their record fall to 12-7 overall and to 4-3 in area play Thursday at Clarke County as they lost 2-1 to the Bulldogs.
The two teams will play a doubleheader in Brewton today at 4 and 6 p.m. With the loss last night, Clarke County clinched the area championship. And Bayside’s win over Excel clinched the runner-up spot for Bayside in the playoffs.
The best T.R. Miller could finish would be 5-3 but would be the odd team out after losing the head-to-head to Bayside Academy.
Clarke County’s Tyler Hutto hit a bases-loaded RBI single to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh after the game was tied 1-1 as No. 7 Clarke County clinched the 3A Area 1 title at home with a 2-1 win over T.R. Miller.
Bulldog pitcher DeAundre Love (5-1) allowed one run on three hits in seven innings with 14 strikeouts for the Bulldogs (16-5, 6-1).
T.R. Miller’s Kevin Davis took the loss on the mound for the Tigers. Davis went seven innings and allowed four hits, three walks, hit two and struck out 11.
Caleb McAnally had a homerun for T.R. Miller’s lone run.
Davis was 1-for-3 at the plate in the loss and Conner Denton was 1-for-3 with a double.
McAnally was 1-for-2 with a solo homerun.
T.R. Miller led 1-0 after McAnally’s homer on first pitch of the fourth inning.
CCHS tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning and in the seventh, had a single and two bunt singles to load the bases with no out.
A chopper in the seventh allowed Clarke County to score the winning run and win 2-1 over the Tigers.
