A four-run third inning helped the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball team to a 6-0 win over the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles Tuesday in East Brewton.
Along with the four-run third inning, the Lady Tigers added one run in the sixth and seventh innings while holding the Lady Eagles scoreless to get the win.
T.R. Miller improved their record overall to 18-11 with the win while W.S. Neal fell to 8-10.
T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said it was a good win for his girls.
“We had a tough week in Gulf Shores last week during spring break and for the girls to bounce back and beat a rival team is good for their confidence,” White said. “Miranda (Smith) pitched extremely well today giving up only two hits and the defense behind her was solid. We did have one error on defense but we bounced back from it and handled it well. We were able to get some people on base and put a little pressure on their defense. We had a couple of timely hits that drove in a few runs also. We did leave a few runners on base that we needed to get in but we will continue to improve in that area. Any day that we beat Neal is a good day.”
In the third inning, T.R. Miller got a leadoff single from Lauren Ward and a sacrifice from Teralyn Moore. Leah Brundidge followed with a single and stole second to give T.R. Miller runners at second and third with one out. A W.S. Neal error was followed by a triple by Taylor Guthrie for the Lady Tigers as T.R. Miller held a 3-0 lead.
Guthrie would later score on a wild pitch to give T.R. Miller a 4-0 lead and help get the win.
Miranda Smith earned the win on the mound for the Lady Tigers going the complete game allowing two hits, no runs, walked three and struck out six.
Kaitlin Hadaway took the loss on the mound for the Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal going seven innings and allowing six hits, six runs, two earned, walked one and hit one and struck out seven.
T.R. Miller made one error in the game and left four runners on base while W.S. Neal made three errors and left five on base.
Haley Lum had both hits for the Lady Eagles as she was 2-for-3.
At the plate for T.R. Miller, Brundidge and Natalie Neal were both 1-for-4 while Guthrie was 2-for-4 with two triples and one RBI. Audrey Hamric was 1-for-2 and Ward was 1-for-3.
Leigh Margaret Bostic had one RBI in the win for the Lady Tigers.
