T.R. Miller Lady Tiger basketball player Courtney Jones signed a scholarship with Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette Monday at T.R. Miller High School.
Courtney started all games during her senior season of 2010-2011 and saw some playing time her junior season after coming off the bench to replace an injured Lady Tiger.
In the 2010-2011 season, Jones and the Lady Tigers went 21-6 and reached the South Regional after advancing to the Final Four in 2010.
Jones had 243 total points this past season averaging 9 points a game and 8.3 rebounds a game and had 2.8 steals a game. Jones had a season high 19 points against Escambia County and a season high 16 rebounds against Hillcrest last season.
Faulkner State went 16-14 overall this past season and was 10-4 in conference play.
“It feels great to sign a scholarship with Faulkner,” Jones said. “Knowing that my season ended, but I get to continue on with a new coach and a new team. Faulkner is close to home, so if I feel like I need to come home it is only a short drive.”
Lady Tiger head coach Ron Jackson said Jones a great force for his team down inside,” “She is a hard worker,” Jackson said. “She led the team in rebounding and we are going to really miss that. She is a really good defensive player and I hope she does well at Faulkner.”
Faulkner head coach Linda Pitts said first of all, Courtney comes from a very good tradition at T.R. Miller.
“I have recruited players from coach Jackson for 17 years,” Pitts said. “It has been a while since I have had one. She has a great work ethic and knows how to play the game and understands defense and knows how to work hard. She has a good attitude and is coachable and those things are the attributes I am looking for in my athletes. She came to our tryouts and she has good size. She is about 5-10 and that is pretty much the norm in our league at the four position. She jumps well and works hard and takes criticism well. So she does all those things that we have to have at the collegiate level. She just impressed my kids and she impressed me and I know coach Jackson does a good job here and we are looking forward to having her in our program.”
Jones is one of many recent T.R. Miller Lady Tigers to advance to the next level with recent players going to Alabama Southern in Monroeville, LBW in Andalusia and Enterprise State College.
