Big inning hurts JDCC baseball against Faulkner

An eight-run fifth inning for Faulkner State led to a 14-6 win over the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team Wednesday at home.
The loss dropped JDCC to 16-32-1 overall and 6-22 in conference play with two games left on their schedule.
JDCC will play at Enterprise Friday at 1 p.m. in a conference game and end their regular season with a home game Sunday at 1 p.m. against Chattahoochee Valley.
In the game Wednesday against Faulkner, both teams scored one run in the first inning.
Faulkner State scored two runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead and then plated eight runs in the fifth to claim an 11-1 lead.
JDCC added one in the bottom of the fifth, but Faulkner plated two in the seventh to take a 13-2 lead.
The Warhawks responded with three in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 13-5 but both teams scored one each in the eight as Faulkner earned the win by eight runs.
JDCC was out hit 16-6 in the loss and made three errors.
At the plate for JDCC, Brandon Blackwelder was 2-for-5 with a double and a homerun and five RBIs.
Jordan Creel was 3-for-5 with a double and Maurice Leverett was 1-for-3 with a double.
Jeremy Barnes took the loss on the mound for JDCC allowing eight hits, 13 runs, four earned, walked one and struck out three in 4 2/3 innings of work.
