Escambia Spartans win first game Saturday

In their second game, the Escambia Spartans semi-pro football team picked up their first win of the season Saturday in Mississippi as they defeated the Warhawks 28-24 to improve to 1-1.
The team will play at home this Saturday against the Louisiana Power. Kick off will be at 7 p.m. and will be at Carver High School in Century.
The team is trying to have a “Meet the Spartans Day” in Century on Friday with food and drink for the fans. Time has not been decided as of yet.
Advance tickets to the game will be available at Spudd’s No. 2 gas station on the four lanes in Brewton next to Bondurant and also at Aaron’s Rent-A-Center in Brewton. Home games for the Spartans are sponsored by Aarons Rent-A-Center.
The game Saturday was played on Hancock North Elementary School Football Field in Kiln, Mississippi, formerly a high school field that Brett Favre played on in High School.
Players of the game for the Spartans included, running back, safety and cornerback Farrin Jackson of Northview High School in Florida. Jackson had two touchdown runs and over 200 yards rushing.
Other Spartan player earning player of the game honors was cornerback, wide receiver, kick and punt returner Cortez Banks, formerly of T.R. Miller. Banks had a interception return for a touchdown, a fumble recovery and over 100 yards in return.
Spartan coach Raj Parmar said the Spartan’s roster will be locked after the fifth game and any persons interested in playing should contact the tea at the following email address—escspartans@yahoo.com— or come to practice at O’Bannon Park on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Brewton.
