The local American Legion chapter and area residents celebrated Memorial Day Monday with a special ceremony to honor the sacrifices of local residents who have served in America’s wars.

“We never want to forget those who have given their lives in service,” said Mike Hanks, Escambia County’s Veterans Services officer.

Charles Jackson read the names of those who have died in each war, giving family members a chance to stand at the memorial for each war in front of the Escambia County Courthouse.

“All gave some, but some gave all,” Jackson said. “Their names are committed on these monuments.”­
