Brewton Babe Ruth 13s win district, go 3-2 at state tournament

The Brewton Babe Ruth 13-year-old all star recently went to the state tournament and finished with a 3-2 record.
Brewton started the tournament with a 15-2 win over Sylacauga and won their second game by a score of 6-5 over Wetumpka to start the tournament 2-0.
In their third game, the 13s lost to Mims Gold 3-1, but rebounded with a 7-4 win over Opp to improve their record to 3-1.
In their fifth and final game, Brewton lost to Monroe 11-3 and was eliminated.

Brewton 15, Sylacauga 2
Brewton scored six runs each in the third and fifth innings to go along with their three in the first while holding Sylacauga to two in the first to win by 13.
Trippe Floyd pitched five innings in the win and struck out four.
At the plate for Brewton, Dakota Graves was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and Floyd was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Tim McDonald was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and scored twice and Jake Najor was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Colton Morris was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double and Christian Alvarez had one RBI.
Malcolm Hawthorne scored twice and Lane Chavers scored once. Brooks Brown scored once and Markail Mitchell scored once.

Brewton 6, Wetumpka 5
With the game tied 5-5 after seven innings, Brewton scored one run with two outs to claim a 6-5 win over Wetumpka and improve to 2-0 in the state tournament.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jake Najor reached for Brewton and stole second to give Brewton the winning run in scoring position.
With two outs and two strikes, Brooks Brown drove in Najor for the winning run to give Brewton the one-run win.
Brewton led 3-1 after the first inning but saw Wetumpka cut the lead to 3-2 in the third.
Brewton would take a 5-2 lead after four innings and a 5-3 lead after the fifth but saw Wetumpka tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth.
Neither team scored in the seventh, but Brewton earned the win in the eighth inning.
At the plate for Brewton, Graves was 1-for-4 and Floyd was 1-for-3.
McDonald was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI and Chavers was 1-for-3 with a double. Najor was 2-for-4 with a double and Brown was 1-for-2 with the game-winning hit and RBI.
Dalton Shell was 1-for-3 at the plate in the win for Brewton.

Mims Gold 3, Brewton 1
In their third game at state, Brewton suffered their first loss—a 3-1 loss to Mims Gold.
Brewton’s lone run came in the top of the fourth while Mims scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth and held Brewton scoreless the rest of the game to win by two.
Brewton was held to only two hits in the loss with McDonald going 1-for-3 and Brown going 1-for-2.
McDonald scored the lone run for Brewton in the fourth inning.

Brewton 7, Opp 4
After suffering their first loss, Brewton defeated Opp 7-4 to improve to 3-1 at state.
Brewton scored four runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and two in the sixth while holding Opp to two runs each in the first and fifth innings to take the win by three.
Brewton tallied 12 hits in the win. Hawthorne was 1-for-3 for Brewton in the win and Graves was 1-for-4.
Floyd was 3-for-3 with one RBI and McDonald was 2-for-3. Najor was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Brown was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Colton Morris was 1-for-3 along with Dalton Shell in the win.

Monroe 11, Brewton 3
In their fifth and final game, Brewton lost by eight to Monroe, 11-3.
With Monroe leading Brewton 3-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth, Monroe plated seven runs to take a 10-2 lead and put the game away.
Brewton led 1-0 after the first inning and until the bottom of the third when Monroe scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Both teams added a run each in the fourth to see Monroe County take a 3-2 lead. After the seven run inning for Monroe in the fifth to take a 10-2 lead, Monroe added one in the sixth and held Brewton to one in the seventh to get the win by eight.
At the plate for Brewton, Hawthorne and Graves were 1-for-3 with Graves having an RBI.
McDonald was 1-for-3 with a triple and Clark was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Najor and Brown were both 1-for-4 with Alvarez going 1-for-1 in the loss.
In district tournament play in Atmore before the state tournament, Brewton defeated Monroe two times in the best two-of-three series to win the district championship.
Both teams advanced to state.
In game one, Brewton won 19-9 behind a nine-run first inning. In game two, Monroe won 17-7 behind an 11-run first inning to tie the series at 1-1.
In the third and deciding game, Brewton won 14-2 to take the series with 10 runs in the sixth inning.
