In an area tri-match at home Monday against No. 1 Bayside Academy and Clarke County, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers split.
The Lady Tigers suffered their first loss of the season, a 3-0 loss to Bayside, to fall to 5-1. In the second game of the tri-match, the Lady Tigers defeated Clarke County 3-0 to improve to 6-1 and to 2-1 in area play.
Against Bayside, T.R. Miller lost 25-7, 25-12 and 25-9. Against Clarke County, T.R. Miller won 25-4, 25-17, and 25-23.
“We came out very, very flat against Bayside,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “They are the No. 1 team in the state and nine-time defending state champion. You can’t come out flat against Bayside and we did and got in a hole. We got in a hole quick in the first game and played horrible. In the second and third set we got a little better, but as good as they are, we really hurt ourselves in serve receive. They did some good things on their side, but we really put ourselves behind because of our serve receive. That is something we can correct before we see them the next time. They are a good team though.”
Against Clarke County, White said he thought his team played real well in the first two games.
“In game three we got complacent a little bit unfortunately and kept them in the ball game,” White said. “I just kept telling them to find a way to win. We were down 18-15 and I told the people on the court they were not coming off. If they were on the court, they were staying. I told them to find a way to win and they did. Maybe we can take that and run with it from a confidence standpoint.”
No. 10-ranked T.R. Miller was set to play at W.S. Neal Tuesday and will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 8 at home against Jay in a varsity match at 4 p.m.
