Alabama’s highways dealt a heavy blow with five traffic deaths reported across the state by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
Trooper Greg Eubanks said officers with ADPS investigated five fatal crashes over the long holiday period that began at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2 and ended at midnight Monday, Sept. 5
Eubanks said two main factors are believed to be responsible for those deaths.
“Of those five fatal crashes, alcohol is believed to have been a factor in at least one of the crashes, based on preliminary investigations,” Eubanks said. “In two of the crashes, seat belts were not used.”
Last year, troopers investigated a total of three fatal crashes with four traffic deaths in Alabama during the Labor Day travel period.
