BMS football loses to Opp 14-8

The Brewton Middle School football team saw their record fall to 1-2 Thursday night at home as they suffered a 14-8 loss to the Opp Bobcats.
Trailing 14-0 with 7:53 left in the game, Brewton rallied to cut the lead to 14-8 at the 5:52 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Tiger defense held Opp on three downs to set up a fourth-and-18 from their own 27-yard line.
Brewton’s defense converged on the play and had the Opp runner down for a loss but the runner broke through Tiger tacklers and after a good spot picked up the first down by the nose of the football to give Opp new life and a fresh set of downs.
After three plays, Opp was forced to punt the ball and the Tigers took over on their own 19-yard line with 1:31 left in the game.
Brewton moved the ball to the Opp 46-yard line and was aided by a personal foul call to set up shot at the 31-yard line with 49.8 seconds left in the game and no timeouts.
From there, the Tigers lost two yards on first down, picked up nine on second down, was forced to spike the ball on third down and saw an incomplete on fourth down to turn the ball over to the Bobcats and lose by six.
Opp scored their first touchdown of the game in the first quarter to take an early 8-0 lead. After the early score, both teams were held scoreless until Opp’s early touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Brewton was held to 187 yards of offense while Opp had 242. Brewton had 51 yards in the first half (35 rushing and 16 passing) while racking up 122 rushing yards in the second half and 14 passing.
Opp had 105 rushing yards in the first half and 57 passing while getting 80 yards on the ground in the second half and none passing.
Tamerick Jenkins led Brewton rushing as he had nine carries for 102 yards and one touchdown. Markail Mitchell added 22 yards on five carries and Ahmaud Taylor had 17 yards on four carries. Chardian Johnson had 16 yards on three carries.
Johnson was 4-for-8 passing for 30 yards and had one interception.
Jenkins led Brewton in receiving with two catches for 17 yards. Taylor had one catch for nine yards and Anterio Drakeford had one catch for four yards.
In the seventh grade game prior to the eighth grade game Thursday, Brewton Middle School defeated Opp 8-0 in a one-quarter game.
The Tigers ran three offensive plays in the game and racked up 62 yards of offense, all on the ground, while Opp had 24 yards of offense (11 rushing and 13 passing).
Joshua Gunter had two rushes for the Tigers and scored on a 62-yard run for the lone touchdown of the game. Gunter finished with 63 yards in the win.
