A former employee of a local mechanic was charged along with a second person last week after police officers observed criminal activity, Brewton police said.
The arrests came on Sept. 15, when officers patrolling noticed a suspicious suspect at a car wash on South Boulevard, police said.
They then noticed a woman coming from Performance Tire with car parts in her hand.
As they investigated, they discovered that the male suspect was a former employee of Performance Tire, and the two had been taking property belonging to the business, police said.
Timothy Hollingsworth, 30, and Gwendolyn Elizabeth Smith, 21, both of Denard Street, were each charged with first-degree theft of property as a result of the investigation.
Smith was released on $20,000 bond, and Hollingsworth remained in prison on $20,000 bond as of press time.
