The 2012 T.R. Miller High School Homecoming Queen is Leah Brundidge. She will be crowned during opening ceremonies at Brewton Municipal Stadium. Attendants for the annual celebration are Gianna Bailey and Abigail Carlson representing the senior class; Taylor Evans and Alanna Ward representing the junior class; Morgan Rowell and Ali Taylor representing the sophomore class; and Chelsea Blunt and Summer Sheldon representing the freshman class.
Lisa Atkinson, coordinator for homecoming events, said plans include opportunities for alumni gatherings as well as student events and a parade to commemorate the celebration.
“We have some special alumni who are making plans to be involved in homecoming,” Atkinson said. “We have a car and a student lined up to help take care of our guests.”
An alumni reception will be held on the lawn of the school near the band room beginning at 10:30 a.m. A tent will be set up for those who wish to gather and relax during the school day. The reception area will be open until 11:30 a.m. for alumni.
A pep rally will begin at 1 p.m. in the school gym and is open to students and alumni on campus for the day. School will be dismissed at the end of the pep rally at 2 p.m.
Floats for the annual homecoming parade will depart from the school at 2:30 p.m. and proceed to the starting point of the parade on Evergreen Avenue.
The parade, which will begin at 3 p.m., will leave the area behind First Baptist Church and proceed through the streets of downtown Brewton stopping for a citywide pep rally in front of the Escambia County Courthouse on Belleville Avenue. Floats and marching units will proceed to the city garage for disbanding.
Pre-game ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. when the homecoming queen and her court will be presented along with introductions of alumni on hand for the celebration. Following the game, the Brewton Civic Center will be open for a homecoming dance for students of the school. The dance will conclude at midnight.
