Lions plan annual car show

Previous car shows by The Lions Club have proven to be a big draw to the community.

There are always a lot of cars at Jim Peach Motors on South Blvd., but on Saturday, Oct. 15, there will be a different group of vehicles taking the spotlight when the 7th Annual Brewton Lions Club Car Show sets up in the car lot.
Glen Freeman, an organizer for the event, said the event has been held at a variety of venues over it’s seven year history.
“This year the people at Jim Peach Motors approached us about having the show at their business,” Freeman said. “By having it there we will have access to bathrooms and other facilities making it easier and more practical. Hal Whitman has gone beyond the call of duty to make it easier to set up. They have been willing to do whatever it takes to make this show a success.”
Freeman said the car show has grown considerably over the year with the 2011 event being among the largest.
“The car show seems to get bigger every year” Freeman said. “We are expecting some 75 to 80 cars to come this year.”
Registration will start at 8 a.m. with the registration fee is $25, including lunch.
The Lions Club members will be manning the grills to turn out sausage dogs and hamburgers and will be offering drinks and other snacks to those attending.
Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m. with awards for the vehicles earning the most points from the judges and for the top best in several categories.
“The first year when I helped get the car show started, all the proceeds were turned over to the Lions Club,” Freeman said. “After that, the club wanted to be our sponsor and it has worked out very well. They do a lot of good work and we like to think that we are doing something right because of the success the car show has had. People like to come to Brewton and support the show.”
