Brewton police officers take Shantae Smith into custody Wednesday afternoon during a sweep through the city. Nine individuals were arrested with eight others being sought.

After five months of undercover operations by Brewton Police, a Wednesday sweep put nine people suspected of illegal drug activity behind bars.

Sgt. Bryan Davis, commander of the Brewton Police Narcotic’s Division, said the operation conducted by the department was a success.

“We are glad to get these suspects off the street,” Davis said. “We are going to continue our efforts to keep drugs off the streets and out of the hands of our citizens.”

Although nine arrests were made Wednesday, Davis said several other suspects are being sought on similar charges.

“We have eight more people that we need to pick up,” Davis said. “Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact us.”

Those arrested Wednesday were Robert Jones, Ganie Spears, Mario Lovelace, Kenneth McWilliams, Luther Kelley, Terrence Heath, DeParish Campbell, Emanuel Jackson and Shantae Smith.

Those being sought include Katherine Mobley, Wendell White, Iviory Miles, Michelle Rabe, Eubie Kennedy, Sherry Flowers, Daymond Jones and Gentell Green.

Several law enforcement agencies, including K9 units from Century Correctional Facility, assisted with Wednesday’s sweep, Davis said.
