BMS basketball falls in opener Thursday

In their first game of the 2011 season and the first game in their new home gymnasium, both the Brewton Middle School girls and boys basketball teams lost to Andalusia Thursday night to start their season 0-1.
The Lady Tigers lost to Andalusia 22-20 while the Tigers lost 35-19.
Brewton will be back in action Monday at home against Lyeffion at 5 p.m. with the girls playing first followed by the boys.

Andalusia 22, BMS girls 20
Leading 18-16 with 3:55 left in the game Thursday at home, the Brewton Middle School Lady Tigers were outscored by Andalusia 6-2 in the final minutes to lose by two points, 22-20.
Brewton tied the game up at 20-20 with 1:34 after Tempest Thompson added her 16th point of the game.
After Andalusia took a 22-20 lead with 29.9 seconds left, Brewton had their chance to take the lead but a missed 3-pointer with 20 seconds left was rebounded by Andalusia.
Brewton was then called for a foul and Andalusia took a timeout with 10.5 seconds left.
Andalusia would miss two free throws with 4 seconds left but a Brewton rebound was stolen by Andalusia and the clock expired as Andalusia held on for the two-point win.
Brewton started the game on a 4-0 run but saw Andalusia rally with a 6-0 run and lead 6-4 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Andalusia outscored Brewton 5-2 to increase their lead to 11-6 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Brewton would outscore the Lady Bulldogs 8-4 to cut the lead to 15-14 heading into the fourth. In the fourth, Andalusia edged out Brewton 7-6 to get the win.
Thompson led Brewton with 16 points while Emonea Curry added four points in the loss.
Andalusia was 4-for-12 from the free throw line while the Lady Tigers were 0-for-3.

Andalusia 35, BMS boys 19
In the boys game Thursday, the Brewton Middle School Tigers lost by 16 points to Andalusia, 35-19, to start their season 0-1.
Andalusia’s opening quarter run of 9-0 and four quarter run of 11-0 was the difference in the game.
Andalusia started the game on a 9-0 run and led Brewton 12-3 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Brewton held a 5-4 advantage to cut the lead to 16-8 heading into the third quarter.
In the third, Andalusia outscored the Tigers 8-3 to increase their lead to 24-11 heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth, Brewton started the quarter on a 5-0 run to get the lead down to eight points, 24-16. From there, Andalusia would go on an 11-0 run to hold a 35-16 lead over the Tigers with 1:08 left in the game.
Ahmaud Taylor end the run and scored the final three points of the game as Brewton lost 35-19.
Markail Mitchell led Brewton with 12 points and Taylor added four points in the loss. Jo Jo Booker had a 3-pointer in the first quarter for the Tigers.
Brewton was 2-for-3 from the free throw line in the loss while Andalusia was 7-for-16.
