WSNMS basketball splits with Central Tuesday

In their first game of the 2011 basketball season Tuesday at home, the W.S. Neal Middle School Lady Eagles defeated Central while the boys lost.
The girls started their season 1-0 with a 25-9 win over the Central Lady Jags while the boys lost 28-27 to Central to start their season 0-1.
Both teams will be back in action Thursday at Central. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Allentown with games starting at 5 p.m. with the girls playing and the boys following later.

Keke Floyd scored 20 points, outscoring Central by herself by 11 points, as the W.S. Neal Middle School Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Jags by 16 points Tuesday, 25-9.
Me Me Lawson added the other five points in the win for W.S. Neal.
W.S. Neal led Central early 8-0 before finishing the first quarter with a 10-4 lead. In the second quarter, W.S. Neal held Central scoreless while scoring four points to take a 14-4 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal increased their run over Central to 10-0 and held the Jags scoreless for a total period of time of 8:50 to outscore the Jags 7-3 in the quarter and lead 21-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal held a 4-2 edge to get the win by 16 points.
W.S. Neal was 2-for-6 from the free throw line in the win while Central was 1-for-4.
Central 28, WSNMS boys 27
Holding a one-point advantage over Central at the half, 11-10, the W.S. Neal Middle School boys basketball team was outscored 18-16 in the second half to lose their first game by one, 28-27.
W.S. Neal jumped out early on Central 5-0 but saw the Jags come back with five of their own to see the game tied 5-5 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, W.S. Neal edged out Central 6-5 to hold an 11-10 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Central used a 7-0 run to outscore W.S. Neal 9-5 in the quarter to take a 19-16 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, W.S. Neal held an 11-9 advantage to cut into the lead by two points, but would lose by one, 28-27.
Dalton Shell led W.S. Neal with eight points while Dakota Graves added six points, al coming in the fourth quarter.
Malcolm Hawthorne had four points in the loss and TyShawn Davis and Traylon Watson had three points each.
Quinton Samuel added two points and Lane Chavers had one.
W.S. Neal was 1-for-2 from the free throw line in the loss while Central was 5-for-23.
