Second-year W.S. Neal head football coach Doug Hoehn has released the 2012 football schedule for the Eagles of East Brewton.
W.S. Neal’s 2012 schedule shows 10 games with all games scheduled for Fridays. The Eagles will have five home games and five away games. W.S. Neal will play their seven scheduled region games this year with three being home and four away. The Eagles have three non-region games scheduled this season with two home and one away.
The Eagles will open their season with a non-region game at home against Holtville. In week five, the Eagles will play at home against Hillcrest in a non-region game before ending their season on the road against Millry.
The Eagles have scheduled their homecoming game for week four, Sept. 21, against Southside of Selma.
Prior to the region coaching schedule meetings, the region coaches agreed to make teams travel to Mobile once to play either Cottage Hill Bayside Academy and once to Covington County to play either Opp or Straughn.
Hoehn said his team played Opp last year in a preseason game and had Hillcrest on the schedule last year along with T.R. Miller, but he is not familiar with the rest of the teams on the schedule, but is pleased with how the schedule set up as for traveling.
“We have five home games and five away games so I am happy with that. For our non-region games, what I did was I just called a lot of schools and these were the schools that had open weeks in weeks 1, 5, or 10. It was just a matter of calling schools.
As for the non-region games this year for the Eagles, Holtville will be in class 4A region 3 and went 1-9 last year. Hillcrest will be in class 4A region 1 and went 5-5 last year while Millry went 3-7 last year and will compete in class 2A region 1 this season. Millry is located in the western part of the state in Washington County while Holtville is located in Elmore County north of Montgomery.
Region opponents this year for the Eagles will be Straughn who went 6-5 last year, Cottage Hill who went 4-6 and Southside of Selma who went 1-9 on the field before picking up a forfeit win to improve to 2-8.
Excel went 3-7 last year, but just lost their coach to Faith Academy and Bayside Academy went 11-1 last year. Opp went 6-5 while T.R. Miller was 9-3.
Here is the complete schedule for the Eagles:
• Aug. 31, Holtville, Home
• Sept. 7, Straughn, Away
• Sept. 14, Cottage Hill, Away
• Sept. 21, Southside Selma, Homecoming
• Sept. 28, Hillcrest, Home
• Oct. 5, Excel, Away
• Oct. 12, Bayside Academy, Home
