Published 7:40 am Thursday, December 15, 2011

Class 6A Bob Jones takes over the top spot in this week’s Class 6A Alabama Sports Writers Association girls basketball rankings.
The Patriots downed previously top-ranked Hoover after falling to the Bucs earlier in the season. Each has won on its home court.
Section moved to No. 1 in Class 2A for the only other change among top-ranked girls teams.
Remaining at the top spot were Class 5A Center Point, Class 4A Good Hope, Class 3A Clements, Class 1A Holy Spirit and AISA Lee-Scott.
There are three new top-ranked boys teams.
Class 5A Talladega jumped to first from fourth due to losses by last week’s top three teams while Class 4A Butler replaced Sumter Central after Sumter Central’s Tuesday loss at Paul Bryant. In Class 3A, Madison Academy moved ahead of Clarke County, which lost at Monroe County on Saturday. Madison Academy also lost this week, by 15 points Saturday to Class 6A Decatur.
The other top-ranked teams are Class 6A Bob Jones, Class 2A Tanner, Class 1A Pickens County and AISA Lee-Scott.
It’s the last ASWA basketball rankings until Jan. 5.
