TRM basketball defeats Southern Choctaw in Jackson tourney

Both the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger and varsity Tigers picked up wins Tuesday in the second day of the DeMarquis Besteda Christmas Tournament at Jackson High School to end their losing streaks.
The Lady Tigers defeated Southern Choctaw High School 53-51 in overtime to end their three game losing streak while the varsity Tigers also defeated Southern Choctaw High School 61-46 Tuesday to end their two-game losing streak.
With the win for the Lady Tigers, T.R. Miller improved their record to 6-6 while the varsity Tigers improved their record to 4-5.
All T.R. Miller Tiger basketball teams will be back in action Tuesday, as they will travel to Excel to take on the Panthers in their first area game of the season. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
The Tigers will take on W.S. Neal, Saturday, Jan. 7 at home with games scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

TRM Lady Tigers 53, SCHS 51 OT
Leading by nine at the half, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers blew a second-half lead Tuesday against Southern Choctaw before winning in overtime 53-51.
The Lady Tigers led Southern Choctaw 31-22 at the half after outscoring the Lady Indians 17-14 in the first quarter and 14-8 in the second.
In the third quarter, Southern Choctaw rallied with a 12-5 advantage in the quarter to cut the lead to 36-34 heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth, Southern Choctaw edged out the Lady Tigers by two points, 14-12, to tie the game at 48 and force overtime.
In the extra period, the Lady Tigers outscored Southern Choctaw 5-3 to get the win.
Leah Brundidge led T.R. Miller in the win as she poured in 26 points. Along with her double digits in points, Brundidge had a triple-double as she finished with 14 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. She also added four steals and was 8-for-20 from the free throw line. Overall, T.R. Miller was 8-for-21 from the free throw line in the win.
LaTeysia Montgomery added 21 points for the Lady Tigers in the win and Taylor Guthrie added six points. Guthrie added seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks in the win.

TRM varsity Tigers 61, SCHS 46
The T.R. Miller varsity Tigers used a big second half and a big third quarter to come away with a 15-point win over Southern Choctaw Tuesday, 61-46.
The Tigers trailed Southern Choctaw 11-5 after the first quarter before cutting the lead to one point at the half following a 15-10 advantage in the second quarter to trail 21-20 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Tigers outscored Southern Choctaw 22-11 to take a 42-32 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller held a 19-14 advantage to get the win by 15 points.
Mark Bryant led the Tigers with a double-double as he finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Bryant added one assist, three steals and four blocks in the win and shot 6-for-8 from the free throw line.
Darrion Salter added 20 points for T.R. Miller and added three rebounds, two assists and one steal and shot 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Jaquan Dewberry had nine points, four rebounds, three steals and a steal and a block for T.R. Miller was going 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
Kameron Winn added six points for T.R. Miller in the win and David Barragan had two. Winn had four rebounds, two steals and one block while shooting 4-for-4 from the free throw line and Barragan added two points, four rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks in the win.
T.R. Miller was 17-for-20 from the free throw line as a team in the win.
