TRM basketball cruises to wins over WSN Saturday at home

Points were at a premium for the W.S. Neal Eagle basketball teams as they were swept by the T.R. Miller Tigers Saturday in Brewton in B-team, girls, and varsity basketball games.
The Eagles dropped a 41-5 decision to the Tigers in B-team action while the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Eagles 32-10 in the second game of the night.
In varsity action, the Eagle boys had the best offensive night for W.S. Neal as they lost 71-39 to the Tigers.
The B-team Eagles were held to no points in the first quarter and one at the half while scoring one point in the third quarter.
In girls action Saturday, the Lady Eagles were held scoreless the entire first half before scoring six in the third quarter.
In varsity action, W.S. Neal was held to five points in the first quarter and seven total at the half following two points in the second quarter. In the second half, W.S. Neal outscored T.R. Miller 32-31.
All in all, T.R. Miller outscored the Eagles 144-54 in the games Saturday.
With the losses for the W.S. Neal teams, the B-team Eagles fell to 1-8 and saw their losing streak go to five games while the Lady Eagles fell to 2-9 and the varsity to 2-12. The Lady Eagles and varsity Eagles’ losing streak is now at seven games.
With the wins for the Tigers, T.R. Miller’s B-team improved to 3-4 while the Lady Tigers improved to 8-6 and the varsity to 6-5.
W.S. Neal is scheduled to play at Thomasville Tuesday in an area game while T.R. Miller will host Clarke County in Brewton in an area game.
All games are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. with the B-teams playing followed by the girls game and then the varsity.

TRM B-team Tigers 41, WSN B-team Eagles 5
The T.R. Miller Tiger B-team held the W.S. Neal Eagle B-team to five total points Saturday as they cruised to a 36-point win over the Eagles, 41-5.
T.R. Miller started the game on an 11-0 run in the first quarter and held the Eagles to one point in the first half.
The Eagles’ lone point came on a free throw from Gary Kelly with 1:54 left in the half. The Tigers led 16-0 at the time and lead at the half 18-1.
In the third quarter, the Tigers roared out to a 10-0 run to hold a 28-1 lead with 3:00 left in the third quarter. The Eagles would once again be held to one free throw as the Tigers led 31-2 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Eagles scored two points to cut the lead to 33-5 but saw the Tigers end the game on an 8-0 run to get the win by 36 points.
Tyquis Collins led W.S. Neal with three points while Kelly and TyAnthony Alexander had one point each.
Dominique Jackson led the Tigers with 13 points and Trae Walked added eight. Jalen Jones added five points in the win while Terry Samuel had four and Robert McClain had three points. Keion Smith, Fabion Jones, Michael Woods and Kellyn Winn all had two points.
W.S. Neal was 2-for-10 from the free throw line in the loss while T.R. Miller was 2-for-9.

TRM Lady Tigers 32, WSN Lady Eagles 10
T.R. Miller held the Lady Eagles of East Brewton scoreless in the first half as they rolled their way to a 22-point Saturday, 32-10.
The Lady Tigers led 11-0 after the first quarter and outscored W.S. Neal 6-0 in the second quarter to hold a 17-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, W.S. Neal was able to get their first points of the game at the 7:23 mark and scored two more points to cut the lead to 17-4 with 6:14 left to play in the quarter.
T.R. Miller would go on to outscore the Lady Eagles 11-2 to hold a 28-6 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth, both teams scored four points each as the Lady Tigers took the win.
Leah Brundidge led the Lady Tigers in the big win with 22 points and Shakera Nicholson added six points. Tempest Thompson and Taylor Guthrie had two points each in the win.
For the Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal, Courtney Emmons led with four points while Arianna Jones, Jasmine Crook and KeKe Floyd all had two points each.
T.R. Miller was 7-for-17 from the free throw line while W.S. Neal was 0-for-0.

TRM varsity Tigers 71, WSN varsity Eagles 39
In varsity action Saturday night, the T.R. Miller varsity Tigers held the Eagles to seven points in the first half to help them get a 32-point win, 71-39.
T.R. Miller started the game on a 6-0 run and followed with another 6-0 run and 11-0 in the first quarter to outscore the Eagles 23-5 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, W.S. Neal managed only two points to cut the lead to 23-7 with 7:01 left in the half. From that point, the Tigers ended the quarter on a 17-0 run to lead 40-7 at the half.
In the second half, W.S. Neal outscored the Tigers 32-31—17-16 in the third quarter and 15-all in the fourth quarter–as the Tigers earned the win.
T.R. Miller had nine scorers in the win with three scoring in double figures.
Mark Bryant led the way with 18 points and Jaquan Dewberry followed with 14. Darrion Salter finished as the other Tiger in double figures with 12 points. Caleb Dickey finished with nine points in the win and Kameron Winn had six. David Barragan added four points and Cornelius Tolbert and Marc Edge had three points each.
Jaquell Dewberry had two points for the Tigers in the win.
For the Eagles, Jalen Harrod and Donovan Millican led the way with 10 points each while Trevor Burns had eight. Josiah Nettles chipped in six points and Derrick Hodges had four. Malcolm Hawthorne added one point in the loss.
T.R. Miller shot 16-for-27 from the free throw line in the win while W.S. Neal was 4-for-10.
