Clarke County defeats TRM in area game Wednesday

In a rescheduled area game Wednesday in Clarke County after a scheduling conflict Tuesday, the T.R. Miller Tiger basketball teams suffered their first area losses.
Against the No. 10-ranked Clarke County Lady Bulldogs, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers lost 53-40 to see their record drop to 8-7 overall and to 1-1 in area play.
In varsity action Wednesday against the No. 1-ranked boys team in class 3A, the Tigers of Brewton fell 68-42. With the loss, T.R. Miller’s record dropped to 6-6 overall and to 1-1 in area play.
The B-team Tigers lost 51-24 to Clarke County to fall to 3-5 this season.
With the Tigers traveling to Grove Hill Wednesday after the scheduling conflict (the game was scheduled as a home game for T.R. Miller Tuesday night), the Tigers will now host Clarke County Tuesday, Jan. 17 at home at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers were scheduled to host Washington County Friday night at home in another area contest.

Clarke County 51, TRM B-team 24
After a 7-0 run to start the game for the T.R. Miller Tiger B-team, it was all downhill after that as the Clarke County Bulldogs pulled away to beat the Tigers by 27 points Wednesday, 51-24.
With the Tigers leading 7-0 in the first quarter, Clarke County responded with a 12-0 run to lead by five after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, Clarke County outscored the Tigers 15-6 to increase their lead by nine points at the half to lead 27-13 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Tigers were outscored by the Bulldogs 15-9 to trail by 20 points heading into the fourth quarter, 42-22.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller was held to only two points while Clarke County scored nine to get the win.
Dominique Jackson led the Tigers with nine points and Trae Walker chipped in six. Jalen Jones added four points and Kieon Smith had three. Jamar Prime added two points in the loss.

Clarke County 53, TRM Lady Tigers 40
Against the No. 10-ranked Clarke County Bulldogs, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers saw a tough first half lead to a 13-point loss.
The Lady Tigers were outscored 32-19 in the first half before both teams scored 21 points each in the second as the Lady Tigers suffered their first area loss.
Clarke County outscored T.R. Miller 19-10 in the first quarter and 13-9 in the second to hold a 13-point lead at the half, 32-19.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers held a 10-9 advantage to cut the lead to 41-24 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Clarke County edged out the Lady Tigers 12-11 to get the win.
LaTeysia Montgomery led the Lady Tigers in the loss with 19 points and Leah Brundidge had nine. Shay Nicholson added six points and Jasmine Montgomery, Tempest Thompson and Taylor Guthrie all had two points each in the loss.

Clarke County 68, TRM varsity Tigers 42
The No. 1-ranked Clarke County Bulldogs forced 25 T.R. Miller turnovers as they defeated the Tigers 68-42.
Clarke County jumped out the Tigers early as they outscored T.R. Miller 23-10 in the first. In the second quarter, both teams had 15 points each as Clarke County led 38-25 at the half.
In the third quarter, Clarke County outscored the Tigers by 10 points, 18-8, to increase their lead to 56-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Clarke County would end the game on a 12-9 run to get the win by 26 points.
Darrion Salter led the Tigers with 15 points in the loss and Mark Bryant had eight. Jaquan Dewberry chipped in seven points and Caleb Dickey had three. David Barragan added two points in the loss for the Tigers.
