Warhawk basketball improves to 3-1 in conference play

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk men’s basketball edged out Chattahoochee Valley 58-55 Thursday in Phenix City. With the win, the Warhawks improved to 9-6 overall and to 3-1 in conference play.
“We led 7-0, then 21-10 before Chatt Valley made a run to end half,” JDCC Warhawk head coach Allen Gainer said. They took 26-25 lead early in the second half, but we fought through it and got up as much as 14 with six minutes to go. We didn’t hit free throws down the stretch and left the door open, but had just enough.”
Warhawk forward D.J. Jackson led JDCC with 17 points and eight rebounds, while guard Brandon Scott and Gabriel Rice added 12 points each for the Warhawks.
Turmonte Ragland chipped in eight points while Larel Jackson had five in the win.
Greg Crum and Sherman Presswood both had two points each for the Warhawks in the win.
Larel Jackson led with six assists while D.J. Jackson finished with two blocks. Scott also added six assists in the win. D.J. Jackson finished with two blocks to lead in the win and Ragland finished with 12 rebounds. Eight rebounds came on defense while four were on offense. Ragland also finished with four steals in the win.
The Warhawks led Chattahoochee Valley 25-23 after the first half and edged out CVCC 33-32 in the second half to get the win by three points.
The Warhawks shot 43 percent from the field and was 10-for-21 from the free throw line.
Following a home conference game Monday against Enterprise, JDCC will play at Bishop Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. and will play Faulkner on the road Monday, Jan. 30 also at 7 p.m.
JDCC will return home Thursday, Feb. 2 with a conference game against Alabama Southern. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Warhawk gym on the campus of JDCC in Brewton.
