Nonprofit organizations throughout the state will have an opportunity Thursday to join in an effort to raise needed funds for the respective groups.
Stephanie Jackson, with the Escambia County Regional Child Advocacy Center, said this is one way to get much needed funding.
“We are a nonprofit organization and this could help raise funding for us,” she said.
Other nonprofit organizations in the Brewton area include Community Action Agency of South Alabama, Jean Dean RIF (Reading is Fundamental), Escambia County Regional Child Advocacy Center, and Alabama Kiwanis Foundation Inc.
The special day, dubbed “Alabama Gives Day,” will incorporate the assistance of a wide range of media and groups to aid in the event.
The Alabama Association of Nonprofits, in partnership with the Alabama Broadcasters Association, is taking that one day to gather the power of individual contributions statewide.
This is the first time Alabamians have had the opportunity to come together in a way to support hundreds of nonprofits during one day of giving.
The day of giving will begin at midnight and will run until 11:59 p.m.
Alabamians will be driven to a dedicated online giving portal powered by Razoo at http://algives.razoo.com/story/caaofsa where they will choose to make a gift to one or more of the hundreds of participating nonprofits.
Russell A. Jackson, manager for the Alabama Gives organization, said those who choose to make contributions will be given an opportunity to support their favorite charity or agency.
“Donors will choose the nonprofit they want to support from a list of 12 areas of interest,” Jackson said. “It’s all about connecting them to the missions they are most passionate about, and hopefully to a nonprofit they’ve never supported.”
Organizers for the Alabama event are following other states who have already joined this way of getting funding dollars for nonprofit organizations.
Only funds collected in this 24-hour time period will benefit from this cause.
The funds given will be used by some participating organization.

Information on how to make a contribution to a variety of organizations and agencies will be available.
Contributions to local organizations can be made to the respective agency.
